NAU Captures SLC-II Title

Encinitas, CA- 

For the first time in program history, NAU Lumberjack Lacrosse captured the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference Division-II title. With two thrilling come-back wins, the Jacks were crowned divisional champions. The team had incredible support over the championship weekend from traveling fans, parents, and alumni. Lead by seniors Troy, Jacob, and Hugo, the 2019 team made history bringing the SLC trophy back to Flagstaff! 

The conference playoff tournament was held at La Costa Canyon High School in Southern California. Shane and Michelle, parents of #24 Jaden Casey, hosted the team for the championship weekend. The men enjoyed great hospitality, and a memorable barbecue during their stay, which undoubtedly contributed to their success. Thank you to the Casey family!

Junior Face-Off Specialist  #30 Cam Pfister

 - Playoff Cam unleashed. He provided energy, and time of possession all game from the face-off dot

Sophomore Defender  #9  Remington Brown

 - Fans could hear the punishing checks from the stands, and his aggressive approaches put fear in opposing attack

Freshman Defensive Midfielder  #24  Jaden Casey

 - Two way play and a diving goal boosted the boys in a memorable championship weekend near Jaden's hometown

Senior Midfielder#38Jacob Belshin 

- The San Diego native & Senior Captain provided explosiveness, and leadership in between the lines 

Final: NAU - 7, University of California San Diego - 5

Memorable Performances:

Freshman Attack #4  Jake Gates 

-The big stage was no problem for the Freshman, scoring and making plays when it was needed most

Sophomore Goalie #13  Alec Gastony 

- Alec put on an masterful performance in the championship game, with several highlight reel saves

Junior Defender #17 Brent Marchand

- The San Diego native & Junior Captain had excellent communication and ground ball play, leading a top defensive unit

Senior Defensive Midfielder #12  Troy Spinelli

- The rock-solid Senior Captain made sure his presence was felt early and often, stymieing the top UCSD midfielders
